CREEMORE - A commemorative DVD of Torch Day in Creemore will soon be available.

Clearview council authorized making the keepsake last Monday night at the request of Councillor Thom Paterson, chair of the Torch Relay Coordinating Committee.

“This production is intended to stand as a visual and audio memory of the day as well as a promotional record of the efforts and successes of this Clearview event,” he told council in a report.

The Winter Olympic flame passed through Creemore on Dec. 29. Local resident Gertie Gowan was one of the people to carry the torch.

The day attracted more than 1,000 people to the village, where several Olympic-themed events took place.

Paterson said Big Screen FX, a Collingwood-based multi-media company, will provide video and audio content for the DVD.

Digital still images will come from Bryan Davies Photography in Creemore and the Creemore Echo.

Paterson said the production of the DVD will be a cooperative effort between the Echo and Bryan Davies Photography, with financial support from Creemore Springs Brewery and the Creemore BIA.

Paterson said the DVD – an exact sale price has yet to be determined – should be available for purchase through local businesses sometime in mid-February.

The money that’s raised will go towards The Clearview-Stayner Food Bank and Easter Seals Ontario.

Paterson said committee members settled on supporting the food bank because it directly serves local people.

Easter Seals was chosen to receive a portion of the funds because, Paterson said, it provides equipment for disabled children and young adults.
