GLEN HURON - Mary Hannan of Giffen’s Country Market in Glen Huron is so impressed with the job that Clearview Township’s snowplow operators do that she found a special way to say thanks.
Last week, plow operators were invited to drop by the Station Road business at any time during the day for a complimentary coffee and breakfast.
“This is the first time we’ve done this,” she told The Stayner Sun. “Those guys are out in all kinds of weather and they do a really good job. I really appreciate what they do and thought this would be a nice way to say thanks.”
Hannan informed township staff of the market’s offer a few weeks ago by way of a formal invitation.
“Unfortunately, I don’t think the word got out too well,” she said. “Only a couple guys came in.”
And because of that, Hannan said they’ve extended the offer for the month of February.
“It’s something nice we can do. When you’re out this way there aren’t too many places you can stop,” she said. “We always give free coffee to the OPP.”
The free breakfast consists of two eggs, choice of sausage or bacon and two slices of toast.
Steve Sage, Clearview’s deputy director of public works, said the nice gesture towards the township’s 15 snowplow operators is unheard of.
“Sometimes a business will give the guys a free coffee or something to eat but never has there been anything like this that I’m aware of – something where an invitation has been circulated to our staff,” he said.
Sage said the gesture is really appreciated.
“It’s one of those nice positive things,” he said.
