STAYNER - Stayner Laundromat on County Road 91 has a new owner and a new name.

After 12 years, Ken and Kathy Parton of Stayner have sold the business to Paula Coutts, who is also a local resident.

The sale was effective Oct. 30. The new name is Stayner Sudz.

Coutts said she approached the Partons in late July about selling.

“What happened was my own washing machine broke down and I was at the laundromat and got talking with Kathy and learned it was for sale,” Coutts explained, adding she subsequently made an offer that was accepted.

Coutts said she bought the business because she thinks it will be a good investment.

Kathy Parton said she and Ken decided to sell because they want a slower pace.

They still have their other jobs – Kathy works in the laundry department at Stayner Nursing Home and Ken is a chief custodian for the Simcoe-Muskoka Catholic District School Board.

Parton said they are grateful for the support they received while owning the laundromat.

“I’m really going to miss the people,” she added.

The laundromat has 18 single-load washing machines, two triple-load machines and 12 dryers.

It’s open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Coutts said a grand opening under the new ownership will take place Sat., Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

She said there will be complimentary muffins, danishes and coffee.

Everyone is welcome to drop by.

“I really look forward to meeting people,” she said.

Coutts noted a new service the laundromat will offer is pick-up, laundry and delivery.

Coutts is not new to the local business scene. She and her husband, Derek, manage Clearview Transport, a local trucking operation.

The couple has two children, Chantal, 15 and Aiden, 6.
