Remembrance Day was observed in Stayner today, with a service at Centennial United Church. A wreath laying was held at the cenotaph on Gideon Street. It was 90 years ago on Nov. 11 that the First World War came to an end. At the time the war was dubbed The War to End All Wars. [more]

Fernwood Farms held its annual pumpkin lighting night on Saturday. Local school children in Stayner carved and decorated the pumpkins - about 525 in total. Until Halloween comes to an end on Fri., Oct. 31, the pumpkins will be lit every night from 7 p.m. until midnight. The display is located between the road and the market building. Fernwood Farms is located on Highway 26, just north of Stayner. [more]

Hydro One says that upgrades to its Stayner station will begin shortly and finish sometime next year. Dave Willson, project manager for Hydro One, says each transformer cost $2-million. Enerco Enterprises Ltd., an Israeli company, produced them. A crane to move the transformer arrived later in the day. It took nearly two hours to set up the crane and lift the transformer to a flatbed truck. The transformer was moved to Hydro One's station on the outskirts of town. [more]

The Ontario Winter Games were held last week, with events hosted at Base Borden including table tennis, synchronized swimming, gymnastics, and squash.
